Project Parameters
This project was done this year in my Typography 2 class, the goal was to create a poster based on the theatrical production She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms. For this project, we had to read the script of the play and create a poster that we felt fit the production. While doing the designing, we also had to keep in mind symbolism and the overall flow of the poster.
The Final Product
Initally, I wasn't too excited for this project just because I thought the script was very boring and it was very hard to follow at times. I pushed on and found something else to grasp on to and that was the reoccuring theme of Dungeons and Dragons. Once I began focusing more on that aspect of the play I found that desinging the poster was a lot easier and more fun. In the end, I put over 30 hours into the illustration which was excruciating at that moment but was entirely worth it. The final illustration I think looks phenomenal and is by far one of my better digital illustrations.
The dragon head is based on the infamous monster in Dungeons and Dragons known as the Tiamat, whihc is this five haeded dragon that posses remarkable abilities. The drawing I did of the dragon head encorporates characteristics of each dragon head, in return, creating this very menacing and fear mongering dragon. The sword that I illustrated is the Sword of Kas, which is a magic, sentient longsword that is sure to make anyone a formidable foe. The construction of the sword felt so exotic and threatening that it just felt like the perfect sword to use to slay one of the hardest monster in Dungeons and Dragons. All the fine details on the dragon head and the sword were meticulously to recreate the textures that the respective objects had.
Overall, I am super happy with how this illustration turned out and how cohesive the piece felt put together.
